Reach Out Together

March 15, 2012

in the generous life

My husband and I are involved in a number of ministry outreaches. Some we helped create and others we support with our skills, effort, money and/or prayer. Aside from the fact that as believers we are called to impact the world around us, it’s great couple building time. My husband and I work together and pray together. It’s a part of the “us” in our marriage relationship.

I encourage y’all to pray with your spouse about how you can give to those around you. I’m a firm believer in thinking and praying outside of the box. What you do doesn’t have to look like what others are doing. What need stands out to you? Adult illiteracy? Slave trafficking? The poor? The condition of your neighborhood? Your kid’s friends? The oncology unit in a nearby hospital? How can you reach out and fill a need … together?

Check out The Story Company,  a way to help fight poverty.  A friend of mine is involved in this.  He’s a mover and a shaker.  I’m looking forward to hearing stories of real impact in the lives of folks around the world.

Very interesting post- makes me think! My husband is very involved in the youth ministry at our church, as well as worship, and loves it. I’m not as passionate about it (the youth ministry, and I can’t sing to save my life or play an instrument!) but we do sponsor a child together and now I want to think of more ways to serve the Lord together with him! Have a blessed day! :)

Thanks so much for the mention! Glad you liked the post! And I definitely agree with you, reaching out and serving with one another is so important! My husband and I led in our church’s youth group for 4 years and it was such a joy to take that journey together. While I stopped when my girls graduated and he continued, we still find ways to serve together whenever we can and that includes finding opportunities to give to organizations we both feel drawn to! Serving is bonding, gives you unique time together, AND creates awesome conversations!
Thanks again!
Erin
