Love is Not Easily Angered
[Love] does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 1 Corinthians 13:5-6 NIV
I don’t think this scripture is saying we’re supposed to be doormats and take a lot of mistreatment. I think it’s asking us to choose to act like Jesus when others around us act badly.
Jesus is God and deserves the best in treatment, but when He is treated badly He sets down his rights and treats those who sin against Him with kindness and grace. He chooses to have a gentle heart and delights when we come to Him. He doesn’t shame us, even though he could.
That’s a tall order. Can we treat our husbands graciously (even when they’re having a bad hair day)? Can we receive an apology without fussing about what they’ve done wrong? Can we speak kindly to and about them to our friends and family?
It’s a heart attitude that takes courage and practice.
