Nix the Negative Words
♥ ♥ ♥ 22 days until Valentine’s Day! ♥ ♥ ♥
Awhile back I recommended The Kindness Challenge by Shaunti Feldhahn.
One of her trifecta-of-marriage-building-guidelines is to say nothing negative about your husband – either to him or about him to anyone else. (If you have to say something difficult do so with kindness and respect.)
Yesterday my pastor spoke on Matthew 5:21-26.
You’re familiar with the command to the ancients, ‘Do not murder.’ I’m telling you that anyone who is so much as angry with a brother or sister is guilty of murder. Carelessly call a brother ‘idiot!’ and you just might find yourself hauled into court. Thoughtlessly yell ‘stupid!’ at a sister and you are on the brink of hellfire. The simple moral fact is that words kill. Matthew 5:21-16 MSG
It was something of a one-two punch for me, reminding me of the power of words to harm or heal.
Pay attention to your words this week. When you start speaking negative words, stop and apologize. Take the time to speak words that encourage and heal.
