Zentangle Challenges

June 25, 2014

I found a couple of weekly challenges designed to stretch your creative skills and imagination. How can I resist?

Weekly Challenge #174 from I am the Diva
Place a string on top of another string for your Zentangle practice.

This really stretched me. I may have to try this exercise a few more times. There is certainly an art to layering different patterns. (Created June 30th, 2014)

joey’s weekly tangle challenge #15
Tangle your country’s flag.

This one was tough. There is not enough room for all the stars and stripes.  :)  (Created June 30th, 2014)

Weeklly Challenge #173 from I am the Diva
Redux, Remix, Revisit a familiar favorite tangle, one you may call a comfort or go-to tangle.

I’m new to Zentangle®, so I looked at my first few tangles and saw that Tipple was my go to filler. I took it from filler to dominant feature, played with shading, left more white space and used a more creative border (I tend to be fairly square). It does look a bit like Christmas lights over a pile of boulders, but I like it.  :)  (Created June 25th, 2014)

joey’s weekly tangle challenge #14 from Made by Joey
Flowers! Use tangles that resemble flowers, stems and/or leaves or tangle a flower shaped string.

I had fun with this one.  :)  It’s not a true tangle because it’s a “window view” but I loved the challenge of flower art and the option of color. (Created June 25th, 2014)

Thanks so much. The main Zentangle pattern is a variation of 4 Corners by Barbara Finwall (http://bit.ly/Vpl70W).

I tried to revisit Tipple too – but didn’t manage half as well as you. It’s beautiful!

Your study using Tipple is wonderful. I like your layout and the way you used size in your design formation. Well done. Your Color piece is also very well done. Nice work.

Great job on the tipple. You achieved some great dimension. The texture almost makes them look like balls of yarn.

Wow, your Tipple piece is awesome! So different from anything else I’ve seen yet, and fantastic.

Thank you all for your kind words. I’ve found the Zentangle community to be so helpful and encouraging, something you need, in general, but especially when you’re just starting out and learning.
