My Pastor Totally Rocks

April 28, 2014

in the generous life

Yesterday my pastor talked about … sex.

He works through a book of the Bible, verse by verse, sharing and teaching as he goes. This week we landed on a few scriptures about sexuality and he taught a very biblically sound, sex-positive message. It was healthy and encouraging. He totally rocks.

Not everyone gets to teach from a pulpit each Sunday (or from a music stand, his usual choice), but each of us have a sphere of influence (a group of people we rub elbows with and share what we believe, by word or deed).

Is your life “preaching” a sex-positive message? What would that look like to your kids, your friends, your co-workers, your neighbors, etc.? How can we share a sex-positive message with those around us?

The evidence is clear; if you want the best sex, if you want the most frequent sex, choose sex in a committed marriage.  Paul Byerly

Loved that your pastor taught from the pulpit on sex. The men in our church are about to start a study on a book call “Sexual Sanity for Men”. I feel that we women need to be covering the same topic at the same time but I am not sure what would be a good book for us. We hope to include all of our women, married and single, perhaps in separate groups when necessary. Can you recommend a book? Maybe one that would address female sexuality as well as understand how men tick.

You might try something like Passion Pursuit by Dillow & Slattery (aff link or The Good Girl’s Guide to Great Sex by Sheila Wray Gregoire (aff link

Does anyone else have a book they can recommend?

Our pastor also taught about sex a few weeks ago. I just recently started going to this church in January. He was so open about it and it was definitely sex-positive–it was refreshing!

Hopefully our pastors are starting a trend. :)

I am doing a happy dance about this one! Good for your pastor. I really believe there’s a way to do this responsibly and boldly and biblically. It’s good to see ministers willing to speak up for what’s right there in the Word of God, including sex.
