Welcome Home

in the generous life

When your husband gets home for the day, how does he enter the home? The front door? Through the garage? Through a back gate?

Take the time to make that entrance nice and inviting.

Remove clutter.
Organize any items that need to be there.
Make it a little pretty.

How peaceful and gracious it is to enter the home easily through a neat and pretty entrance. Welcome home.

Home, the spot of earth supremely blest, a dearer, sweeter spot than all the rest.  Robert Montgomery

It’s funny that you mention this now. We nearly always enter the house through the garage, and until recently I haven’t given much thought to it, except to make sure we won’t trip over anything. I’ll admit it — The garage doesn’t get a lot of attention when it comes to cleaning and organizing. But a couple of days ago I noticed that the door to the house had become dirty and smudged over time. The step was dusty, and there were a few cobwebs in the corners. I hate cobwebs! So I cleaned the door and swept the step. It was squeaky, too, so I oiled the hinges. Then I got to thinking how great it would be to paint that door a happy color (it’s plain white now), and what a great surprise that would be for my husband, to come home one day and see a bright red (or maybe purple or teal) door greeting him. Because it’s inside the garage, the color doesn’t have to match the rest of the house. It can be anything that will make us smile.

I like the colorful door idea. We come in through the garage too and that would just be so fun!
