Stay on Track

January 16, 2014

in the generous life

Heidi was the 34th poster in the “New Year’s thoughts, resolutions, words or goals” contest. She has won a copy of  31 Days to Great Sex by Sheila Wray Gregoire. Sheila blogs at To Love, Honor & Vacuum and has authored a number of great books.

I was crazy busy yesterday (and will be again today too).

I had to gather information for my husband, do mucho paperwork, make sure the 2013 financials for the day job were perfect so they could be sent to the CPA, run to the post office, and soooo much more (plus I have more bookkeeping and paperwork to do this month, a jury duty call hanging over my head and my son’s approaching wedding (Feb 1st) dancing in my heart). It was one of those days that went fast and furious, with more on the horizon. I was barely keeping my head above water.

You can imagine my whiplash when my husband started making eyes at me.

I thought about begging off. I’m beat and there is much more to do. Reality is, life keeps moving on and if I don’t MAKE room for those people and things that are important to me, those relationships will suffer. So even in January (my busiest month) with all of life whirling around me, I make time for my sweetie. Whether it’s sex, snuggle, or making time to talk or play Tetris Attack, my man matters.

Yes, I know there are some legitimate reasons for begging off sex and other life adventures. Just be sure to get back on track when you can. Keep the good kind of relationship habits going. Don’t let the occasional crazy busy of life take you off track.

It’s not about “having” time, it’s about “making” time.  Author Unknown

This is a great reminder to keep your priorities straight, and to set good habits in place for the month of January. It’s ironic as I’m writing a series on my blog about priorities and investing in your marriage and I’ve struggled this month, thus far, with making time for my honey. Proof that as a marriage blogger, I need uplifting and encouragement too. Adam and I have been doing much better though in the last 3 days in setting aside the things we could be doing separately in favor of doing things together, making more time for sexual intimacy, and just talking more. We’ve been improving our intimate connection slowly, and even if our progress is minor, we’re both in favor of celebrating the little hurdles we’ve hopped in addition to the big fences we’ve mowed down.
