My kitchen floor has been grubby for the better part of a week.
I’ve been busy with time sensitive activities and we are in the messy part of winter (my dog must go in and out (many times) to defend us against squirrels and other eminent dangers). Mopping the floor just hasn’t made it to the top of the list.
I mention it because I have a tape in my head that is just … ridiculous. It runs something like this, “Your house must be clean and pretty at all times, especially the (whatever is presently messy). You wouldn’t want others to see the (presently messy thing) and think you are a terrible homemaker … wife/mom … person.”
Dumb, I know. I’m doing better at creating reasonable, sane standards for my life, but I still hear the old tapes playing now and then.
Life is messy. Perfection is a terrible yoke. Stop the old tapes and live a life that speaks to your values and honors the people in your life (you too).
My house is clean enough to be healthy … and messy enough to be happy. Author Unknown
