This is a season for serving and also a season for giving.
I bring this up because a friend of ours is smack dab in the middle of the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. His name is Molong and my husband and I (and several friends) have known him for years.
He routinely cares for widows and orphans. He’s taken many folks into his home over the years and now he and several friends are scrambling to help the hungry and homeless in the northern part of Cebu (where he lives wasn’t hit as hard).
They have small motorized vehicles and they buy food from local merchants and take it to those areas that have been hardest hit. They are also making longer term plans to help families rebuild their homes and lives.
Molong actually lives what he teaches (I do not say this lightly).
If you are looking for a place to give this season, go here to read about Molong and donate. The money will go through House2House (my day job) and we will get the money to Molong so that he can continue to feed and help families rebuild.
As an aside, many folks are calling the Tuesday after Thanksgiving ~ “Giving Tuesday.” It’s sort of a reminder (after all the spending of Black Friday and Cyber Monday) that giving is the true spirit of the holiday season. I’ll remind y’all as we get closer.
Definitely this is a season to curl up someplace with your man and discuss how and where you want to give.
