Your List of Games

November 18, 2013

in the generous life

After reading through all the comments from the Oh No! Larry the Creeper! Favorite Games Contest, I thought it might be fun to create a list of all the games mentioned. Games that were mentioned multiple times are in bold print.

I think I will get one or two games and wrap them for Christmas. Many of these games would make a great family gift for friends. A small card game would make a nice stocking stuffer. You are giving a gift plus hours of fun with family and friends.

Bananagrams, Scrabble and Settlers of Catan were the most mentioned games.

WE LOVE DUTCH BLITZ! Lifeway Christian Bookstores can order it, in case someone was wondering.

I have to ask you to Arkham Horror. Its a cooperative strategy game (like the LotR). Really, Hubby and I have beat the LotR game every time we’ve played (never lost it!), but Arkham Horror is far more complex and engaging (and can take all day to play, which does limit its playability, if you play with all the various extensions), and we’ve lost a few times. We really like the cooperative games b/c they don’t pit us against each other, and Arkham adds the suspense of we really don’t know if we can win (unlike a lot of other games were we know we can win b/c we are both strategists and think through all the ins and outs and figure out games rather easily). Yes, the game is based on the Lovecraft tales, which are rather spooky, but we find that adds to the suspense.

A game we’ve enjoyed for its compatibility with kids as young as 2 or 3 yrs, but still fun for the whole family is Busy Town. Plus it’s adorably done with the artwork of children’s author/illustrator Richard Scary.
