Wait for the Words

July 27, 2013

in the generous life

I have a couple of friends that speak slowly and pause often. I have to bite my lip not to offer a word or two.

But really, I learn more about them by waiting for them to choose their own words.

Same with the hubby man. It’s easy to think that I know him and can “help” him along with his speaking, but I learn far more about him by waiting. And I think it shows a bit more respect too when I don’t interrupt with my take on what he is trying to communicate.

The art of conversation is the art of hearing as well as of being heard. William Hazlitt

Oh I love this, Lori. We all need to be reminded, and I never thought about what I might miss when I choose to interrupt him. Great post!
