You are a Label Maker

March 5, 2013

in the generous life

I love my label maker. I love to organize and create labels so that it’s easy for me to find what I’m looking for.

Labels are good, good, good.

Well, actually there are some labels that are bad … like the labels we can put on people … like our husbands.

lazy
total failure
rude
sex monster
selfish
useless

Think about how hurtful it would feel to hear, “You’re lazy!” and know that your spouse had labeled you from the inside out in such a shaming way.

Why not drop the labels or, better yet, create some good labels that bless and heal.

provider
lover
friend
thoughtful
helpful
fabulous cook (or whatever)

Think about how it would feel to hear something like that. Look at what your husband does well or look at what God is working into your husband and label him accordingly.

Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.  Proverbs 16:24 NKJV

So true – words affirm or tear down. Great reminder.
