Practical Theory

in the generous life

♥ ♥ ♥ 12 days to Valentine’s Day! ♥ ♥ ♥

I’m a “practical how-to” person. I can (and enjoy) talking theory, but if in the end I can’t put it to practical use, then it’s just … theory.

So often you will get a practical do-able idea from me in a blog post. It may seem very small or vanilla, but if you actually do it, the “theory” will begin to play out in your life.

So actually “kiss your husband for 15 seconds” (or more). Imagine how that would play out in your sense of intimacy.

So actually “make the bathroom more husband friendly.” How would that make your husband feel and how much friction would that take out of your mornings (and your relationship)?

So actually “play a board game with your sweetie.” What kind of memories will that build?

Small and practical ideas may seem too simple and somewhat inconsequential, but really there is a lot of depth and life-changing opportunity in them. Our days are made of small interactions. Make them count for something.

We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.  Marian Wright Edelman

I’m with you on loving the practical. Just tell me one little thing I can do that will make a difference. I love that about your blog.
