The How

January 30, 2013

in the generous life

♥ ♥ ♥ 15 days to Valentine’s Day! ♥ ♥ ♥

What’s the difference between:

Hon, would you let the dog out? (said calmly and reasonably, at a relatively convenient time)

and

Geesh! Your dog is driving me crazy! Little monster! Would you flippin’ let him out?! (said angrily and impatiently)

In both cases you are asking someone to let the dog out. Nothing wrong with asking for something you want or need. Nothing wrong with that at all.

It’s the how that reveals our heart and our attitudes.

The first example says you respect and care for the person you are talking to. The second example says that it’s OK to speak angrily and unkindly to another person, to blame, to shame, to demand.

Voice intonation and attitude are a huge part of the communication equation. What are you communicating to the love of your life?

… the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.  Proverbs 31:26b  ESV
