A Time to Serve

November 19, 2012

in the generous life

The other night my husband, son and I went to a Thanksgiving dinner that was offered free to our town by a local church. It’s a big yearly thing for them and most of their church members turned out to help prepare food, dish up plates, wash dishes and clean up.

The interesting thing was how happy all the servers were. They were having a blast serving friends, family and strangers (who hopefully wouldn’t be strangers for long). It’s amazing how working shoulder to shoulder can build the sense of friendship and belonging.

Why not find a way to serve others this holiday season? Grab your sweetie and dish up food, deliver gifts, offer transportation, etc. This time of year offers plenty of opportunities for volunteering. Serve others and build your marriage too!

We try to do something each year to help those in need. It has left the message with out kids that it is not all about us.

And thanks for the mention!

The kid thing is definitely a plus! We didn’t catch onto that until we heard our son talking about serving to our pastor. :) He was four at the time. Totally made us proud.
