Walking in the Word

in the generous life

I told my husband that I needed more conversation with him about spiritual stuff. We talk about all kinds of subjects, but I’m hungry for some nitty gritty talk about Jesus and how our lives can look as we reflect Him.

We decided that we would read through the New Testament in a year in a version that we don’t know very well (so what we read is fresh to us). Aside from all the goodies we hope to find, we want to look at what the Bible says about marriage and gender (there are all kinds of insights tucked away in the verses).

Well, it’s a bit sucky that we won’t be starting until January (my husband is committed to a study through the end of the year), so in the meantime I’m reading Ephesians a bunch and sharing my thoughts with him.

I encourage y’all to do something (anything) like this with your husband. Do a topical study or pick a book of the Bible to read together. If your guy isn’t interested in a Bible study, suggest reading a blog or other book and discussing it. If that’s a no go, you can do what I’m doing and share what you are reading.

The point is to explore spiritual ideas and concepts together.

I know that some are you are married to unbelievers. The Bible is probably out, but perhaps there is a blog that discusses marriage or issues of integrity without too much scripture (Ferguson Values might be a good choice). Truth is truth and it’s good to talk about things that can build you up as individuals and as a couple.

Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.   Psalm 25:5  ESV

This is such a great idea. I love to talk about the Bible with my husband. He has a Bible college degree and he has such great insight to give.
