Little Surprises

April 28, 2012

in the generous life

Last fall my husband helped me plant daffodils along one side of our property (we have a fence planned, so we planted them just outside of our “invisible” fence). They’ve started poking up through the soil and we should have flowers shortly. Even though I knew they were there, they feel like a little surprise, a gift of color and life.

I like doing things like that for my sweetie too. Taking care of a small chore or tucking a couple of freshly baked cookies next to his keyboard isn’t a terribly big surprise, but it is a bright moment in his day, a little gift that says he is loved, that he matters.

Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.  Robert Brault

I tuck little notes into my husband’s lunch box every night when he goes to work. Even though he’s expecting them, he still appreciates it. I love doing little things for my husband to surprise him and he likes to do the same for me. Last week he came home with my favorite candy bar, over the weekend he surprised me with the suggestion to go for a long drive together, and today I’m surprising him by making him his favorite “breakfast” dish for dinner. Celebrate the little things! I wholeheartedly support it!
