Stay Calm

April 23, 2012

in the generous life

One of the kindest gifts that you can give to your spouse (or anyone) is the gift of “calm.”

Right after church yesterday, the child of a friend ran into the edge of a table. It was potentially pretty serious, but everyone stayed very calm. Siblings were handed off and the child was rushed to a nearby urgent care facility. I was so touched by everyone’s ability to stay calm and think practically. (The little one ended up with three stitches and is back to her rascally self.)

I know sometimes you just need to have a good cry and, really, I’m not saying that anyone should deny the reality of a difficult situation.

My point is that being calm is a behavior that we can exercise and grow in and offer as a lovely gift to our husbands.
