Be 3D

in the generous life

Sometimes I get concerned that folks will think that I am only about the marriage relationship, that women should be so tightly focused on their man that they fail to be people and have a sense of self. I realize this is probably about the email I occasionally receive or the concern I have about parts of church culture that make us only helpmeets.

But just in case, some thoughts …

A whole, healthy person is fun to be around and makes marriage a delight. Be curious. Chase a dream. Use a talent. Share your thoughts. You are a person in your own right. You are His creation. Your husband probably married you (at least in part) because he found you beautiful, inside and out. Don’t let that woman fade under the busyness of life and the many needs around you.

I know there are seasons of life where we can be swamped with responsibilities in caring for others (just getting a shower or going the bathroom alone can be a challenge for moms of little ones), but never lose sight of the knowledge that God created you as a beautiful, unique individual and that He has plans and a purpose for your life.

Yes, we have a thousand people and responsibilities tugging on us through life, but you can get to know yourself and choose to respond to life instead of letting life happen to you and choose for you.

Don’t be afraid to be amazing.  Andy Offutt Irwin

Thanks, Lori, for reminding us that it’s ok to be an individual too. I think our marriages would be very shallow if we stopped being who God created us to be and only focused on the marriage relationship.

I agree that maintaining our individuality as women is very important in a marriage. How easy it is to lose sight of our own unique and wonderful qualities amidst the sometimes chaotic stress of everyday life.
