“Making Your Room Special” Contest

March 16, 2012

in the generous life

Awhile back my husband and I got an email from a gal named Ang who created a CD entitled Marriage Bed Vol 1.

So, please add your “ideas for making your bedroom special” as a comment to this post. It can be anything from bedroom music you like, to decorating ideas, to ideas for privacy, to organizing ideas, to whatever. What do you do to make your bedroom special?

On March 31st, I’ll ask my husband for two numbers and the gals who posted comments in those spots will each win a Marriage Bed CD.

My grandmother always told me, “Always decorate the master bedroom first — it’s the most important.” She’s right (as usual)! I’m currently still waiting for the time and finances to decorate our new master bedroom. My biggest tip is get some PAINT on the walls. Don’t let the master bedroom be a washed out color. Choose something saturated, whether vibrant or soft or dark or light. If you do go with neutrals, try to pick some other decor that will bring in saturated color. God made color for us to enjoy, and it certainly makes a room feel cozy, lived in, and inviting.

I love reading the idea! One thing we have is a “privacy sign” that we put on the outside of our door.unless its an emergency & we talked about what constitutes an emergency. We have raised the children to know that Husbands & wives need special time alone without interruption. My daughter calls it Mommy & Daddy time I heard her telling the dog the other morning that we had our sign on the door. ;)

Teach your children young & it’s never to late if you haven’t done so.

We have a new house. The Master is Deep red and a gold wall with chocolate carpet. It feels very cozy and luxe! My next addition is going to be vinyl letters for above our bed that say “Come, lay with me… and Dream”. Dh has wanted a chair in there since the beginning of time. I recently found one at Goodwill that is perfect size and nice fabric. Also got to redo the bedcovers with brand-new stuff from Target that I found at Goodwill. ;)

At the start of our marriage I decorated our bathroom with my lingerie. I humg each one with a silk hanger, and then added candles and towels to coordinate with all the colors of the lingerie. It has always been our OASIS! This has been 20+ years of a haven for us. I highly recommend it!

I hide all of the candles in our room until one of us decides to be romantic. When one of us sees the other has brought them out, it’s a signal to the other to get ready for some fun :0)

I remodeled our bedroom like the old show While You Were Out, only it was called While You Were Gone! My two teens helped to work on the project and even filmed the weekend event. I put out a call to my friends/family for help redoing our room as an anniversary surprise a few years after we moved into this 30-year old house. (He was slowly fixing up every room in the house, and I wanted him to have one less room to work on, our little haven.) Hubby went to a men’s retreat one weekend, and as soon as he pulled away, we got everything out of their hiding places: paint, brushes/rollers, closet organizers, new bedding and curtains–the works! I had even painted the closet doors at a friend’s house! Everything was purchased on sale, with coupons, etc. I know his decorating taste, so I knew he would love it. All weekend this army spackled, painted, tore up the carpet to make a beautiful love nest for us. When he pulled up outside, true to the TV show, we were scrambling to put the bed together. He was totally surprised and so appreciative to everyone who came to help!
