10.5.1 Mall Date – Fall in Love at the Mall

Plan an evening out together where you go to the mall with a different mindset.

This time you’re not picking up your son’s next pair of jeans that he’ll only outgrow in a month.  You’re not buying Christmas gifts in a last minute frenzy, or rushing to get in on that great sale which ends tonight at closing.

No, this time at the mall is to rekindle the romantic side of your relationship.  Here’s the idea:

10 – Each of you are given $10 to spend on something or several things that will make your spouse smile.  You can’t go over $10 and any money left over can only be change.

5 – You also must take 5 pictures with your camera or phone along the way that communicates a romantic message to your spouse.  It could be the sign in a store window, the cover of a book, or the message on someone’s t-shirt.  It could be a picture of an object that communicates how your love makes you feel – like an elevator says, “You pick me up when I’m down!”  :-)  You get the idea.

1 – Give yourselves each 1 hour to shop and decide on your meeting place afterwards.  It could be for dinner at a restaurant in the mall or in the Food Court, or it could be at a coffee shop for dessert and coffee.  Wherever you meet make sure you have a place to yourselves to enjoy sharing your finds with each other.

At the end of the hour – meet and take turns showing your five pictures and then, exchange the gift(s) you purchased and see if you make them smile.  If you do – you win.  If you both smile, than you both win!  A win-win date night all around.

What perfect timing. We had completely lost all creativity in inexpensive date nights. This is a wonderful idea.

Wow this is a great idea for a date. My husband of 20 years just asked me where do I want to go for a date this weekend. I did not know where to go. But I will deffinetly suggest that we try this. I know that he is going to agree because he likes to do fun things and this seems like fun. I cant wait to see who smiles first

These are such great, fun ideas. Especially the idea of meeting up afterwards to share your findings.

Rob and I are not “shoppers” – we usually see time spent shopping as painful – but this IS NOT shopping… This is Fun! Luv it! Our son and his bride would love this too – I’ll pass it along! Thanks so much!

Love the idea. My husband would never do it, but it’s a great idea to pass along, some husbands will do it! Thanks!

My wife and I have done this a couple of times and its a blast! Not exactly a cheap date though: $20 in gifts plus dinner isn’t much cheaper than a movie. But it was way more fun. Thanks!
