Gracious Response

September 7, 2011

in the generous life

The next time your husband compliments you, take a deep breath, smile and say, “thank you.”  Just, “thank you.”  Nothing more.  Don’t follow up with reasons why you are not perfect or why whatever it is you are being complimented over is not quite perfect, or whatever.

It’s deeply important to your husband that you receive his compliments graciously.  Even if you disagree with him, he is telling you what he feels and thinks.  Respect his perspective and say, “thank you.”  (Bite your tongue if you have to!)

I can no other answer make, but, thanks, and thanks.  William Shakespeare

Thank you! Thank you for sharing these simple yet strong words of wisdom. I am so quick to tell my husband why is compliment is wrong. I will stop doing that. (I pray that the Lord will help me stop doing that.)

Thank you again.
