Learn from a Life

September 2, 2011

in the generous life

I’m reading a biography about George Washington Carver. He was a slave at the time of the Civil War (US history). Understatement: his life was deeply challenging. However, he met life with kindness, grace and a desire to share Jesus with anyone he met. I’d like to be like him.

I find that reading about others is an encouragement to my walk.  I learn from their successes and failures.  I am challenged by their examples of courage or generosity or faith.

If your husband is a reader or just likes a great story, why not pick out a biography and take turns reading to each other (or each read your own choice of biography and then share with each other).  Be encouraged and challenged by the lives of others, those who have walked before us.  Perhaps one day, someone will follow your footsteps.

Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing. Albert Schweitzer
