Show Preference

in the generous life

My husband is just one of those thoughtful people.  He’ll jump up to help someone carry a heavy load.  He’s chatty and friendly.  I remember someone suggesting that I should be jealous of the attention and help that he gives other people.  It took monumental effort, but I did not laugh.  The reason I don’t worry, is that he clearly shows a preference for me.  He loves me, serves me and generally makes my life easy.  By comparison, he loves me more.  I don’t doubt his love.

My husband and I explored this idea years ago when we needed to set up some healthy boundaries with other people.  We came to the conclusion that talking with others was fine, as long as our spouse got more and better.  Serving others was great, as long as our spouse got more and better.  That doesn’t mean that we don’t love and serve others, it’s just that we chose to value each other more than any others.

Do you show a preference for your husband?  Does he get the best treatment?  Do you tell him the good news first or compliment him in front of his friends?  Make your marriage relationship special and secure.

Be generous!  Lori <><

AMEN on today’s post!!! I spent many years being jealous and angry over my husband’s penchant to help others. It wasn’t until I realized(with God’s help) that this was his ministry given to him by God that I was able to let go of the anger and jealousy and see with pride the help he is to others.

Thank you for this post! I shared it with my husband with a note to thank him for showing me preference, and asking him to let me know how I could do a better job showing him preference. And…he sent me flowers at work today thanking me for the email!!

I really appreciate all of you helpful thoughts and ideas. Even if they aren’t easy, they’re worth the effort.
