Fair Warning

in the generous life

© Alanpoulson | Dreamstime.comAt a recent ladies gathering, a friend of mine mentioned how she called her husband to give him a warning that she was heading for that “hormonally challenged” time of the month. We all laughed because we have been there, but I thought it was an exceptionally nice act of kindness. Guys don’t really understand what it is to have a hormonal cycle, so it’s good to give them a heads up when you are facing those (hopefully) few rough days of the month. It lets them know that your angst is about body chemistry and not the fact that they breathe and take up space. It lets them know that you are facing challenging circumstances, perhaps something they can understand and be a bit helpful about.

I think, as a general idea, it’s good to communicate about your daily circumstances. It gives context to what you do and say ~ something that every husband needs.

I had a friend who used to put a dead rose in a vase in the window so her husband would see it before he walked in the door. This was her signal that she was having a REALLY BAD DAY and needed some TLC from him. He purposed that when his hand touched the doorknob, he was there to serve his wife. Great examples to me when I was a very young wife.

This is hysterical, because it’s true. I’m lucky enough to have a husband I can be honest with. When he asks me whats wrong, I just look at him and tell him “You are breathing again” and he knows its nothing he did and nothing he can do to help. He gives me my space to get over it!
