I went out to lunch with my husband and about halfway through the meal I realized that he was pretty much carrying the conversation. Now granted he is a talker and he generally does more than his share, but I was definitely “not there.” I pulled it together and began to engage a bit more.
I remember early on in my marriage, I took the time to take note of things that I wanted to share in conversation with him. It helped me engage better and I know it helped to build greater intimacy between the two of us.
I encourage y’all to do likewise. If your co-worker or your kids do something funny, take note. If you hear something interesting on the news or read something of interest online, jot it down and use in conversation later.
