Personality Know How

in the generous life

Check out or buy a book on personality types and study up on your husband. It’s a lot easier to appreciate him and build him up if you know what makes him tick.

Therefore encourage one another and build up one another …  1 Thessalonians 5:11a NAS

Lori,
When I was a younger bride, I heard or read a story about a couple. In a nutshell, the scenario was this:
She locked the doors before bed. He asked if they were locked, and even though she said yes, he still checked them.
This happened night after night, and it was bothering her.
When she asked the Lord why he didn’t trust her, why he had to go behind her and check the doors, even though she told him she had locked them, the Lord told her, “He is a door checker. That is the way I made him. It is that trait in him that makes him good at his job.” (I don’t remember the job, but I think it had to do with accounting.)

God has made us all with particular gifts and talents, and it is His design that makes us each unique. If we learn to appreciate the differences, even if sometimes they rub us the wrong way, we can learn to love more fully.

Perhaps you’ve heard the story, and can remember who originally told or wrote it, but your tip today reminded me of it.

Be blessed as you bless us so generously!

I love the book “The Five Love Languages” by Gary Chapman. It really helps me to know how to love my husband better and fill his bucket every day. When we become disconnected I reread it and have him take the test (also available online) and remind myself/ adjust my interaction with him. My husband also appreciates me taking the test so he can be on track with me.
