Integrity: 1. adherence to moral principles; honesty 2. the quality of being unimpaired; soundness
My husband and I just got home from running a conference for the day job. Doing all the behind-the-scenes work at various events gives you a unique perspective of the people that you serve. Servants tend to be invisible and people act in front of you in ways that they normally would not otherwise. I can pretty much tell you who is a good husband or wife, who is kind (and who is not), who can laugh at themselves and who takes themselves too seriously, who walks what they talk, etc.
I found myself looking forward to seeing some folks and cringing a bit over those few. I worked to give everyone the best service, but underneath it all was the awareness of integrity or lack thereof. I don’t want to be one of those folks that people cringe over. I want people to be able to trust my word. I want them to see me as honest, kind, and someone who isn’t afraid to serve. I want to be a safe place in a world that is not always kind or stable.
Most of all I want to be these things to those I love – my husband, my kids, my friends. It starts at home.
Character contributes to beauty. It fortifies a woman as her youth fades. A mode of conduct, a standard of courage, discipline, fortitude and integrity can do a great deal to make a women beautiful. Jacqueline Bisset
