What You Do Next

in the generous life

I was watching a TV show last night and the main character said, “We all make mistakes.  It’s what you do next that matters.” I asked my husband to back it up so that I could listen to it again!

How important it is to own when we have done something wrong and then take the time to ask for forgiveness and make things right again.  Be sure to stay current with your husband.  Don’t let your mistakes or bad attitudes/actions go by without addressing them.

A man who has committed a mistake and doesn’t correct it, is committing another mistake.  Confucius

Very good advice!!!!!! Another thing I would add to that is to make sure that if you have guilt or embarrassment about your mistake, make sure it doesn’t keep you from moving on in a more positive way. I had a friend who’d made mistakes but he made himself feel so guilty for them that he kept making the same mistakes without meaning to. So it’s important we try not to heap up all that guilt on ourselves because if we don’t deal with our guilt it actually holds us back from growing and improving. Sometimes I think we subconsciously think that we MUST bear the burden of guilt as punishment for how dumb we’ve been or something, and we don’t realize that guilt is counter-productive, because if we don’t let the knowledge that God has forgiven us s(o we can throw guilt away) sink in, and just continue feeling guilty we can’t grow and we can’t ‘make it up’ to the people we love because it puts us in a pretty dark place.
