in the generous life

A recent comment from Evelynrose …

… Something I started doing that goes along with today’s post is to journal something I appreciate about my husband–every day. And I write it [in] letters that are twice the size of my other journal entries. All the good stuff I love about him boldly smiles at me each time I open my journal–and it keeps my heart focused, too …

Journaling can be a wonderful tool. It helps to sort out all the stuff rattling around in your head and it can work as a lovely reminder of all the good things in your life.  Another nice idea is to share a journal with your husband.  Share little love thoughts, quotes or scriptures that speak to you, etc.  It’s a good way to communicate your thoughts and build intimacy.

I just started journaling my prayers, it’s a great way for me to remember our goals…never thought of sharing it with him.

I’ve kept a journal all my life and while it’s not wildly private, I’ve never offered it to Gary. However, on our honeymoon, he got curious and read the entire current journal in one night! In the morning, he said it was so fascinating and insightful he couldn’t put it down. He loved it.

Thankfully, I didn’t see it as an infraction and if anything, I was really pleased that we’re so honest with each other that he didn’t learn anything new or contrary. I may have elaborated in my journal, but there was nothing there he wasn’t already familiar with.

What a cool thing to happen on our honeymoon. It generated some neat conversations.

Journalling prayers could be a good way to be “watchful in it with thanksgiving”, and see how God blesses when we obey Him!
