Influence of Choice

in the generous life

Seth Godin had an interesting blog post that basically said, “what you expose yourself to will likely shape who you become.”  Applied to marriage, the concept holds.  If you expose yourself to people who talk down about their spouses or don’t invest time in their family and marriage, it will rub off on you, to the detriment of your marriage.  If, on the other hand, you expose yourself to people who speak well of their spouse, invest time in their family and marriage or are just overall marriage friendly, it will encourage you and help you grow in your marriage relationship.

You don’t have to be a “person of influence” to be influential. In fact, the most influential people in my life are probably not even aware of the things they’ve taught me.  Scott Adams

How very true this is! I’ve heard it described as “You become what you behold.”

That’s so true! That can be applied in so many areas of life as well. Friends have a big influence over people without even directly trying to influence them.
