Christmas Love Letter

in the generous life

A friend of mine and her hubby started a tradition a few years back when funds were tight.  They exchanged love letters in the place of gifts.  They were so blessed by the practice that they continue to do so each year even when there is money for additional gifts.  Why not start such a tradition in your marriage?

My husband and I have been married almost 3 years. We’ve never had much money, so we started this tradition our first Christmas. We place the letters in each others’ stockings. On Christmas Eve, we snuggle on the couch together, read the old letters and the new one. Its a really great reminder to see where the Lord has taken us over the years. Its much more special than a gift could ever be!

I took this tip one step further. We have three teenagers, and this year they mostly got gift cards, so there weren’t really ‘presents’ wrapped under the tree. I wrote ‘love letters’ to each of them outlining their assets and what made me proud of them. Then I tucked them on the branches of the tree Christmas Eve so in the morning they saw their envelopes in the tree. My husband’s letter was in the tree too, but of course, his was much more personal….
